Reworked Classics pattern

Last summer I worked on some trend-inspired pattern design briefs as part of the Make It In Design Summer School, and two of my patterns made it into the Surface Pattern Lookbook from Moyo magazine. It was a really fun challenge and it's lovely to see all the other beautiful patterns in the book.
My Reworked Classic pattern was inspired the kings and queens in a pack of cards and also by Castell Coch, near Cardiff. It's an extravagant Victorian recreation of a gothic castle, designed by architect William Burges. The interior is wildly over the top; it's full of classical and medieval patterns on the woodwork and tiles, but also bright colours, and the walls and ceilings are handpanted with woodland animals, starry skies and scenes from Aesop's Fables.
