Today I saw lots of wonderful faces from home on Skype, what a treat. Here are two screenprints I made recently of home. 'The Forty' is in the centre of Cholsey, with a big conker tree and pretty red brick cottages and a white picket fence, how quaint. 'In The Garden' is the abundant harvest of fruit and veg in my parents garden, particularly apples at this time of year, yum. Plus here are some photos of a dramatic shire autumn sunset over Cholsey with lovely clouds.

In July I spent the weekend on a boat on the river Thames for a really fun hen party. The weather and countryside was glorious and #boatlife was extremely enjoyable and relaxing. Of course, we needed matching hen party tshirts, so I drew and screen printed these nautical tattoo designs, featuring the anchor, nautical stars, shells, swallow, compass and flowers. They looked great with our captains' hats. Our Vessel, the Caversham Royal, with inflatable figurehead 'Graham', took us from Caversham to Abingdon and back, and activities included picnicing, drinking prosecco, waving at the riverbank folk and even a swim in the river.
These nautical tattoo designs are also available on phone cases, pillows, bags and shower curtains among other things in my Society6 shop!

New screenprint alert. I made this last week at Oxford Printmakers, inspired by a sunset I saw on a warm summer bike ride round the Shire. After the hard work going up the hill there is a really fun long downhill, but we had to stop to look back and admire the scene, with Didcot Power Station and Wittenham Clumps in the distance. It's for sale in the shop too.

Some new screen prints now in my shop. The Butter Dish features Tom the black cat, honey, toast, butter and a lovely vase of Hyacinths. Swyncombe Sheep is a view I saw on a recent evening bike ride looking back at Didcot Power Station and the Oxfordshire countryside.

A while ago I worked on a poster and social media campaign to promote a charity bike ride for Plan. I created these African inspired patterns with a cycling theme which was really fun to reseach and create. The brightly coloured kanga is from East Africa, and often made into beautifully tailored outfits, the wax resist dyed fabric came from Indonesia orginally but became very popular in Africa, and the geometric mudcloth is hand dyed in West Africa.
Several years ago I went on an amazing trip to Tanzania and Kenya, I saw markets full of the bright kanga fabric with bold patterns. I went on safari in Kenya, the warthogs by the side of the roads were my favourite animals to spot. I stopped off at Kenana a wonderful knitting workshop near Nakuru. I also went to Zanzibar and had a feast at the night market in Stone Town, highly recommended! While I was in Dar es Salaam in Tanzania I had the chance to volunteer my screenprinting skills. Firstly at Mabinti Training Centre, which teaches women screenprinting and sewing skills (in a room full of glorious old Singer sewing machines) so they can start their own business. I knew about three words of Swahili so teaching printmaking involved a lot of hand gestures! Then at Wonder Workshop, who employ disabled people to make art and homewares out of recycled materials, including welded metal sculptures, recycled glass jewellery and screenprinting on recycled paper. I designed some Christmas cards and wrapping paper and had the best time printing them with the paper ladies. Needless to say, I came home with my suitcase full of brilliant handmade things!

So my mum recently put up my Sigtuna wallpaper from feathr.com! And recovered some retro chairs to go with the mid century look and feel. Here it is as a backdrop for a few screenprints.

Have watched a lot of tennis this week! Here is a summery pair of screenprints inspired by the most important tennis-watching ingredients: strawberries and cream! I printed them using handcut paper stencils which is very satisfying. I made these for my mum's 60th birthday, I printed 30 of each to make 60 in total and gave them to all the birthday party guests. And then we ate more strawberries and cream.

Here is the July page from my 2016 calendar of lovely quotes, featuring some very sensible words from Ratty of Wind in the Willows about the joys of the river in summertime. Henley Royal Regatta, the ultimate messabout on the river, is happening this week so here is my pair of screenprints 'Regatta', featuring the iconic striped boating tents in Henley, and all the ingredients in a classic glass of Pimms.
I have been really enjoying the instagrams of Lizzie Carr which is full of lovely pictures of the river bank from her rencent adventure travelling Englands waterways on a stand up paddle board. Well done Lizzie!

I made a screenprint from my recent trip up to Scotland featuring the lovely yellow gorse and the isle of Arran in the distance beyond the shining sea. Here are some photos from the workshop at Oxford Printmakers of it all coming together. And it's available in my shop!

Here is a screen print I made recently of a tranquil spot in my friend Lucy's garden by the river Thames in South Oxfordshire, it's the perfect place to sit with a refreshing beverage and watch the sun go down. I also used this on the front of a pretty wedding invitation design I have been working on for an eclectic outdoor wedding this summer by the river. This screenprint is available in my shop!
